CCW Training Academy Tactical Self-Defense Pistol Training In Florida

Start Your Training Journey in the Right Place
Tactical pistol training works exactly like martial arts. White Belt. Blue Belt. Black Belt. Every level builds on the one before it, and there are no shortcuts. You never get more than you invest — not in skill, not in time, and not in money.
If you go looking for a discount Black-Belt, reality will hand you a White-Belt outcome when it counts.
Live-Fire or Indoor Dry-Fire?
Most people believe that to make progress in tactical pistol training, it has to be on a gun range with live ammunition. But the truth is that every great shooter on earth trains indoors with dry-fire every single day. They know that for every live round they fire on the range, they should fire between ten and one-hundred dry-fire repetitions at home.
What Dry-Fire Really Is
Dry-fire simply means practicing the fundamentals — stance, draw stroke, grip, sight alignment, sight picture, trigger control, follow through, recovery, reloads, and movement — without firing a live round. It’s how professionals build speed, accuracy, and consistency.
Dry-Fire on Steroids
We take dry-fire to the next level by using the
CoolFire Trainer
that makes the slide of a real pistol function using CO2 and creates near live-fire recoil, and the
Mantis Laser Academy
computerized target system that times and tracks shots. Together, they turn dry-fire into a realistic, data-driven training experience that accelerates your progress dramatically.
Why Dry-Fire Is Often the Best Starting Point
Starting with dry-fire training has many advantages over live-fire. It is less expensive without the cost of ammo. It is quiet and peaceful, so your pistol instructor has an easier time evaluating and correcting your pistol fundamentals — the foundation of fast and accurate shooting.
Choose the Level That Matches Your Goals
The first step is simple: decide what level of capability you want to walk around with. This page shows you the full progression so you can choose the starting point that matches your goals — not your fears, and not your budget.
And if cost is the only thing slowing you down, the checkout system lets you use your credit card and flexible payment options so you can train at the level you need without putting anything off.
Use the guide below to jump directly to the level that fits where you are today — and where you want to go next.

Permitless Carry (Constitutional Carry)
You Can Carry Without a Permit — But You Still Need the Training
Florida now allows permitless concealed carry, but the law still requires you to meet all the same qualifications as a Concealed Weapons License holder. The main difference is that you don’t have to apply for the permit.
Permitless carry gives you the legal ability to carry a firearm in some places — it does NOT give you the knowledge to survive a violent encounter.
- You must still understand Florida’s self-defense laws. Stand Your Ground, Use of Force, and Deadly Force rules apply the same with or without a permit.
- You must still carry safely and competently. Most negligent discharges come from untrained carriers.
- You must still be prepared for real-world violence. Criminals don’t wait for you to “figure it out” under stress.
- You cannot carry a gun as you drive through a school zone without a Florida Permit! Do so and you are committing a Federal Offense.
- Training protects you legally. A documented training record can help you during an investigation or if you later apply for a CWL.
What You’ll Learn in the
Permitless Carry Course
This is the same comprehensive training offered in my Concealed Weapons License classes below:
How to Register
To keep the training consistent and legally accurate, permitless carry students register through the Concealed Weapons Permit course page.
The training is identical — the only difference is whether you choose to apply for the state permit afterward.
Concealed Weapons Permit
Even though Florida is a permitless state, there are still many benefits to having a CWL that are not available when carrying permitless. Here are just a couple:
- Driving through a school zone without a permit is a federal offense.
- You skip the 3‑day waiting period on firearm purchases.
- Your Florida CWL is recognized in 37 other states.
- 4-Hour Basic Permit Class
A simple, supportive, confidence-building class that meets Florida’s training requirement for your Concealed Weapons Permit.
- 8-Hour Advanced Permit Class
For shooters who want deeper legal knowledge, more range time, and stronger defensive fundamentals.
Both routes lead to the same high-quality training — and both lead to the registration page.
Beginner Through Advanced Pistol Training
Fix Bad Habits Before They Become Permanent
Quick benefits rundown:
- Reinforce safe gun-handling habits.
Safety is a perishable skill. Regular training keeps it automatic. - Most self-taught shooters — and shooters taught by other self-taught shooters — build bad habits without realizing it.
These habits slow the draw, ruin accuracy, and become harder to fix the longer they’re repeated. - Most new shooters “dip the muzzle” under stress.
It’s the #1 cause of low shots, and you can’t diagnose it yourself because it happens in a split second. - New shooters also tend to flinch when they anticipate recoil.
A flinch is one of the hardest habits to break. It’s far better to learn the fundamentals correctly from a professional instructor and never start flinching in the first place.
Teach The Student Firearm Fundamentals
- Poor stance creates recoil problems and inconsistent accuracy.
If the foundation is wrong, everything else becomes slow, shaky, and unreliable. - Incorrect grip pressure ruins accuracy and recoil control.
Most beginners grip too hard with the strong hand (the hand that presses the trigger) and too weak with the support hand (the hand that wraps around the strong hand). Proper control requires the correct 80/20 pressure split to stabilize the gun and manage recoil. - Sight Alignment. A simple process that most new shooters, and even experienced shooters get wrong.
- Sight Picture. Aligned sights must be placed on the intended point of aim.
- Trigger Control. The trigger steers the gun. Too much or too little trigger finger pulls or pushes the gun off target. Jerking or slapping the trigger pulls the gun off target. There are many more minute mistakes that completely destroy accuracy.
- Follow-Through. Maintain the fundamentals through and after the shot.
- Recovery. Reset the trigger and realign the sights as quickly as possible to set up follow up shots.
How An NRA Certified Instructor Removes Years of Trial & Error
- You can’t see your own mistakes.
A trained instructor spots issues instantly and corrects them before they become permanent. - Build safe gun-handling habits that stay with you for life.
Safety isn’t automatic — it’s trained, reinforced, and checked. - A solid foundation makes Tactical I and Tactical II dramatically easier.
You’ll learn faster, shoot better, and avoid frustration later. - Basic Pistol Classes (Private or Live-Fire Range Training)

How The CCW Challenge Works
- How the Challenge works:
- Shooters are given a sequence of events / scenario to visualize in their mind. They are then sent to the firing line to live out that scenario and defend themselves with live-fire. Watch this video to see your instructor engage multiple bad guys who have ambushed him and are demanding his wallet.
- Each shooter is timed for draw to first shot, and time to neutralize all targets. Results are reported on Practiscore.com
