Tactical Pistol Training I
Tactical Pistol Training I
Build the Defensive Pistol Skills
That Help Keep You Alive
Tactical Pistol Training I is designed for responsible adults who already understand safe gun handling and have reasonable competence with the basic shooting fundamentals.
This is not a beginner pistol class. Instead, it reinforces the fundamentals you already know and begins applying them at greater speed and under more demanding conditions.
You will learn to draw a loaded pistol safely and efficiently from the holster, establish a firing grip, control recoil, make accurate follow-up shots, move effectively, and make better decisions under pressure.
This is not competition shooting or range theatrics. It is structured defensive pistol training focused on practical performance.
Tactical Pistol Training I is conducted step by step so you can improve efficiency without sacrificing safety or control. Each skill builds on the one before it.
If you already handle your pistol safely and shoot reasonably well but want to move beyond static range practice, this is where that transition begins.
What You Will Learn in Tactical Pistol Training I
This course follows a structured progression designed to build real defensive shooting ability. Each skill is introduced, practiced, corrected, and reinforced so it becomes more reliable under pressure.
- Evaluation of your current shooting fundamentals with immediate correction of inefficiencies.
- Efficient and reliable drawstroke from concealment with an emphasis on safe execution.
- Drawing and presenting a loaded pistol from the holster.
- Grip, stance, and recoil-control techniques for faster and more accurate follow-up shots.
- Threat-focused accuracy under realistic time pressure.
- Movement, angles, and positioning that can improve survivability.
- Scenario-based decision-making to develop judgment under stress.
- Self-defense law lecture and Q&A to improve your understanding of when force may legally be used.
Every block of instruction develops practical skill. You are not simply learning how to shoot more accurately. You are learning how to apply existing shooting skills in a defensive context.
Who This Tactical Pistol Training I Course Is For
Tactical Pistol Training I is designed for responsible adults who already understand firearm safety and have developed reasonable competence with basic pistol shooting.
This course is ideal for students who want more than slow, static shooting and are ready to begin applying their skills in a structured, performance-driven environment.
Many students enter this course after completing beginner pistol instruction or developing basic proficiency through supervised range practice.
At this stage, the objective changes. Instead of simply learning how the pistol operates, you begin learning how to access and use it efficiently.
The course is especially valuable for shooters who have reached a plateau with ordinary range practice. Structured defensive training can identify inefficiencies and give you a clear path to further improvement.
It is also an important foundation for more advanced concealed-carry, defensive-pistol, and scenario-based training.
Who This Training Is Not For
This is not a beginner safety class.
Students should already understand basic firearm safety and be able to operate their pistol without constant instructor assistance.
Before attending Tactical Pistol Training I, you should be able to:
- Handle your firearm safely at all times.
- Maintain proper muzzle awareness.
- Load and unload your pistol without assistance.
- Follow range commands immediately.
- Demonstrate reasonable accuracy at normal defensive-training distances.
Students who have not yet developed those skills should complete foundational pistol training first.
Why Tactical Pistol Training I Matters
Most recreational range practice takes place under predictable conditions. You stand in one location, shoot at a stationary target, and normally have plenty of time.
That practice has value, but a defensive encounter creates a very different problem.
You may have to recognize danger, move, access your firearm, draw safely, make rapid decisions, and place accurate shots while experiencing significant time pressure.
Tactical Pistol Training I begins bridging the gap between basic marksmanship and defensive application.
The emphasis is on efficiency, consistency, control, and the ability to perform skills without unnecessary movement or wasted time.
As your technique becomes more efficient, you can perform faster without simply trying to move faster.

Alan is a former deputy sheriff, NRA Certified Pistol Instructor, and NRA Range Safety Officer. His training emphasizes safe gun handling, efficient technique, practical application, and steady progression.

A Structured Path to Real Defensive Skill
Tactical Pistol Training I establishes the first major transition from basic shooting ability to practical defensive pistol performance.
Fundamentals still matter. In fact, they matter even more when you begin drawing, moving, shooting faster, and making decisions under time pressure.
The objective is not to abandon the fundamentals. It is to make them more efficient and apply them under increasingly realistic conditions.
With proper instruction and consistent practice, your skills become faster, more reliable, and more useful when circumstances become demanding.
